Jason Saffels is a Supportive Housing Specialist with Central Florida Behavioral Health Network, Inc. He is a graduate of University of South Florida and a MBA Candidate at Florida Southern College. He has a passion for advocating for our most vulnerable citizens. Jason has been in the field of social services for fourteen years and has contributed his expertise to obtaining benefits and services to support those in recovery.

Becky-Sue Mercer has been in the housing/customer service realm since 1995 primarily Public Housing, but has experience in Tax Credit, Section 8, Section 202, Rural Development and Project Based Voucher programs in Ohio, Michigan and Florida. From 1984 to 1995 Ms. Mercer was employed at DCF in Ohio.
Ms. Mercer has spent her entire career helping people by maintaining community relations and being an active community partner for non-HUD programs. Her motto is “to serve the community one family at a time”. Ms. Mercer serves on several committees of the Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (FAHRO) and is also active with SERC-NAHRO and PHADA.

Pat is a 28 year veteran educator. She has served as a teacher, dean, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent. She is dedicated to making her community of Okeechobee the best it can possibly be for children and their families. She serves on the board of directors for Communities Connected for Kids, the Okeechobee 4-H Foundation, the Heartland Coalition for the Homeless and the Early Learning Coalition of Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee Counties. Pat loves being the head cheerleader for band, volleyball, basketball, theater, softball and steel drums.

Barbara has an extensive, 20+ year background in the social work field. Barbara has assisted individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, obtain housing and their road to recovery. Barbara is known throughout the community as a passionate and effective Trainer in SOAR, Motivational Interviewing, WRAP, and WHAM, engagement specialist and community liaison. As the SOAR Local Lead for in District 15 & District 19, she coordinates strategic planning sessions within the multi-County area and Continuum of Care, facilitates regular training and provides technical assistance to local partners.
Heartland Coalition for the Homeless
Brenda Gray who retired from US Army after serving 22 years also served as Deputy Mayor of the City of Avon Park for 12 years; member of the City Council for 19 years and is also a retired Certified Probation & Parole Officer for the State of Florida. She is now serving her 7th year as council member. She is currently serving as Executive Director for Heartland Coalition for the Homeless, serving (6) counties providing rental assistance for the homeless and needy low- income individual throughout Highlands, DeSoto, Glades, Okeechobee, Hardee and Hendry Counties. Brenda Gray has been serving others for the majority of her adult life. Brenda’s passion for service is evident throughout the many roles/positions she has held. Brenda has always put others’ needs before her own and has portrayed selfless character throughout.
